Come sing with us! We get together every Tuesday evening and sing from the 1991 version of “The Sacred Harp.” This is open community singing where all voices are welcome – no musical or singing experience is expected or necessary. Loaner song books are always available to use during the singing. Also known as shape note music, Sacred Harp music is a form of early American devotional music that comes out of a rich living tradition. Deeply rooted in the American South where it has been kept alive by generations of singing families, churches, and communities, Sacred Harp music and the love of singing it has spread across the country and around the world within the past 40 years. Written and sung as a four part harmony, the music is notated with shapes to facilitate learning and sight reading music (it works!). Join us every Tuesday evening from 7-9pm at the First Parish Church, located at 425 Congress St. in Portland, ME. We look forward to singing with you!
