February 12, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)
An event every 1 month(s) on that lasts 0 day(s) and 3 hour(s), the last of which will begin on August 13, 2017
The monthly Waterville Shape Note Singing will be held  from 2-5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1 Park Street.  The Shape Note singing is a free, participatory  event, not a performance. No experience is necessary and  beginners are warmly welcomed.  Books are available for loan or purchase.
There will also be NO potluck meal after the singing, but feel free to bring snacks to share at the break.

The singing is primarily from the The Sacred Harp, a shape note tunebook that has  been in continuous publication with periodic revisions since 1844. The music consists of hymns, fuging tunes, anthems, and other songs in a style rooted in Colonial New England, popular in Maine up until the Civil War and in areas of the rural South and West up to the present day.  There may also some singing from the Shenandoah Harmony.  Books will be available for loan or purchase.
