Sharon Shannon is a musician who likes to surprise. While she is known for her arrangements of traditional Irish tunes and Irish-influenced compositions, she has always been eager to explore new styles, and to meet and work with other musicians. There are Irish influences here but in her newest album she has cheerfully mixed in often unexpected styles from around the world, including – for the first time – Africa. Sharon has perfectly mastered an African/Irish crossover. It’s her free-wheeling approach that makes Sharon Shannon so exciting. She has had a remarkable and adventurous career, and this summer she brings a bit of that adventure to the Opera House stage. At the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, 86 Townsend Ave. 7:30-9:30pm. $25 advance, $30 day of show. FMI: Cathy, 207-633-6855.
