Reel excitement is happening this Saturday, January 7th from 7 to 10pm at the First Saturday Cherryfield Contra Dance! The anticipated return to our home hall at the Cherryfield Academy has been postponed by a still unexplained accident of the sprinkler system that resulted in some significant flood damage to the beloved building. Once again, the American Legion Hall, right next to the Academy building at 49 Main Street, comes to the rescue! There we will be privileged to host the Contra Dance debut of the Moose Island Contra Etc (MICE:-) band, a talent pool of Washington County’s finest musicians featuring Alice Schuth on fiddle, Susan Luthin playing octave mandolin and whistle, Joan Lowden on bass, Kara McCrimmin on piano accordion, guitar and Irish whistle and Jim O’Neil playing banjo, button accordion, guitar and bass! Eustacia Landrum will grace the hall as our caller! All dances will be taught and everyone is welcome, all ages and abilities. Spectators curious about Contra Dancing and those who simply love spirited live music are encouraged to come also:-)
There will be a refreshment table with snacks, and a hydration station with pitchers of water and cups. You are most welcome to bring contributions to the refreshments, but please try to keep them Covid safe. Masks and sanitizer will be available and their use strongly encouraged. Testing before coming can be extremely helpful. And if you are not feeling well, or know you have been seriously exposed to Covid, or any illness, please refrain from coming. To get to the Cherryfield American Legion Hall go to the intersection of Route 1 and Route 193 in Cherryfield and head north on Route 193 for about 200 yards where the building is on the right. There is a 10 dollar suggested donation for adults, with children less. For more information call 546-2998 or email [email protected]
There will be a donation jar for checks or cash offerings from anyone who loves the great building next door and who would like to contribute to its recovery.
