Portland – Concert

OLS & NECA Present: Ozere. Formed in April 2012, Ozere began as a vehicle to try out violinist Jessica Deutsch’s original compositions. She wanted to write fiddle and folk tunes for a string quartet, but chose to pair violin and cello with mandolin and upright bass. Those instruments gave the band more textures and a fierce percussive energy. Jessica then asked singer Emily Rockarts to come and sing a few songs with them at their first show, and vocals were added to the mix. Ozere takes equal inspiration from chamber groups and folk bands. It’s what happens when you bring together musicians who play bluegrass, Celtic, jazz, Klezmer, Afro Cuban, classical and more.
