Waldoboro Sacred Harp Singing
September 24, 2:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 2:00am on day Fourth of the month, repeating until October 22, 2017
The Midcoast Area 4th Sunday Sacred Harp Singing occurs on 4th Sundays. This month, we will be singing at St Paul’s Chapel on dutch Neck Rd. As always, one and all are welcome to join us in song – including beginners, curious friends, and passing strangers, with no prior musical ability or experience expected or required. We sing unaccompanied in 4 part harmony, primarily from The Sacred Harp (1991 Denson edition) tunebook, with loaner books available to use during the singing for those who don’t have their own copies. The Sacred Harp is a shapenote tunebook that has been in continuous publication with periodic revisions since 1844. The music consists of hymns, fuguing tunes, anthems, and other songs in a style rooted in Colonial New England, popular in Maine up until the Civil War and in areas of the rural South and West up to the present day.
