Waldoboro Sacred harp singing

June 25, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every month that begins at 2:00pm on day Fourth of the month, repeating until June 25, 2017

The Midcoast Area 4th Sunday Sacred Harp Singing. As always, one and all are welcome to join us in song – including beginners, curious friends, and passing strangers, with no prior musical ability or experience expected or required. We sing unaccompanied in 4 part harmony, primarily from The Sacred Harp (1991 Denson edition) tunebook, with loaner books available to use during the singing for those who don’t have their own copies. The Sacred Harp is a shapenote tunebook that has been in continuous publication with periodic revisions since 1844. The music consists of hymns, fuguing tunes, anthems, and other songs in a style rooted in Colonial New England, popular in Maine up until the Civil War and in areas of the rural South and West up to the present day. There is a potluck following the singing, so bring a dish to share if you can.  FMI: 563-6083 or to join the email list, email singing@mainesacredharp.org,
