Hallowell—Kennebec Contra Dance

Come dance with us into the long summer evening. This month we are featuring some of the real treasures of the Maine Contra Dance tradition. John McIntire will be calling to music by Ellen Gawler, Greg Boardman, and Jessie Boardman.

In keeping with John’s focus on traditional roots, the calling will use the old terms of Gents & Ladies instead of our usual Larks & Robins. John reminds us that these traditional terms should be treated as role designations, and not gender indicators. As always, anyone can ask anyone to dance, anyone can dance either role, and swapping roles is perfectly fine.

• 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm:  Newcomers’ orientation
• 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm:  Contra Dance

Suggested donation: $15 to $25. Pay more if you can; our musicians are worth it.
If you can't pay $15, pay what you can. Even if you have no money, you should dance.
Children free. Teenagers $8. Children are our future.
