Maine Balkan Choir, Ellsworth area “mother ship” rehearsal every Wednesday at 6 PM

Recurring Event Event Series (See All)

January 25 , 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

The Maine Balkan Choir Hancock County Oblast will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 PM at the Sainit Andrews Lutheran Church fellowship hall in Ellsworth. Very conveniently located not far from the crossroads of routes one and three.

This group was started in 1998 by the late Kirsten Stockman and Joe Niemczura. They have been in pandemic hibernation.

This group specializes in Slavic folk singing in the village style. Due to the bad news in Ukraine, we are preparing a program of Ukraine folk music. We will present a concert in late spring and the proceeds will be donated to a Ukraine children’s charity. When we were planning this, we were pleasantly surprised by the statewide interest in learning about the folk music and folk culture of Ukraine, and so you will certainly see there are two other sub-groups with this name. If you are closer to Belfast or Portland, please do join the other group; each is singing the same material. When we do the concert we will assemble all three groups as well as some musicians. (concert date is not set yet)

You do not need prior choral experience to join.
