On May 4th and 5th at the Bagaduce Music Performance Hall, fabric artist Jo Hesse and fiddler Owen Kennedy will present “Music is the Fabric of Community,” a weekend of dancing and crafting that will combine the traditions of Scottish music and Turkish felt-making to create beautiful rugs.
During the workshop portions of the weekend from 10a-4p, participants will create rugs that will become sound-buffering wall hangings in the Bagaduce Music performance hall, pounding wool and keeping time to waulking songs led by Scottish singer/fiddler Owen Kennedy and work song specialist Bennett Konesni. Participants will also have the option of making smaller felt items to bring home. At 5:30p on Saturday, May 4th, Jo Hesse will give an artist talk about her work, and be introduced as Bagaduce Music’s artist of the year for 2024. At 5:30p on Sunday, May 5th, Owen Kennedy and friends will present a concert focusing on Cape Breton and Gaelic songs.
