Recruiting singers to be part of a grassroots choir

We are looking for singers to join us as we create a statewide choir with a special purpose: to create community by singing progressive songs. Think “Rise Up Singing” with a focus on current events. This group will mirror the Resistance Revival Choir of Vermont or other group singing such as that put on by Choir!Choir!Choir. Why Sing? “Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”  (John Lewis) No experience necessary, and no auditions. Participants are expected to adhere to the 2017 Women’s March Guidelines for Unity:

• • Women deserve to live full and healthy lives, free of all forms of violence against our bodies.

• • We believe in accountability and justice in cases of police brutality and ending racial profiling and targeting of communities of color.

• • It is our moral imperative to dismantle the gender and racial inequities within the criminal justice system.

• • Women’s Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are Women’s Rights.

• • We must create a society in which all women are free and able to care for and nurture their families, however they are formed, in safe and healthy environments free from structural impediments.

We haven’t picked a name for the group yet. The first meeting will be April 28th in Belfast at a location to be announced.
