Atlanta DistDance: Contra & English: w/ Bethany Waickman & Glen Loper

Virtual Contra and ECD dances specially designed for dancing by 1 or 2 people, and plenty of time to chat and interact.  Glen Loper  and Bethany Waickman will play the tunes on mandolin, tenor banjo, guitar, and piano.  A mysterious caller from parts unknown will teach.   Half English Country Dance, Half Contra Dance, all fun!

POSTPONED: The Portland Triple-Decker Contra Dance

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED (NEW DATE TBA) IN COMPLIANCE WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE US CENTER OF DISEASE CONTROL TO HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS.

 

Contra dancing from 1:30 ’til 11 p.m.

State Street Church in Portland (159 State St)

3 BANDS:
Guillaume Sparrow-Pepin, Clara Stickney, and Dan Faiella
Anna Patton, Eric Boodman, and Julie Vallimont
Ed Howe, Peter Siegel, and Garrett Sawyer

Bands and callers will perform in the order listed above.

25 bucks at the door (cash, checks, or debit/credit cards) – because of this special pricing, we will not be accepting gift certificates

Bring some extra cash for the 50/50 raffle!

Gender-free dance roles!
No partner needed!
For a day-long event like this, you may want to use a parking garage. The two closest to the dance hall are the Gateway Garage at 181 High Street and the Spring Street Garage at 45 Spring Street, both of which are within a 10-minute walk.

If you come later, know that on-street parking is free after 6pm around the State Street/West End neighborhood. You may also park at The Fresh Approach Market or The Reiche School on Brackett Street. We recommend saving extra time, as it might take a bit to find a spot.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED IN COMPLIANCE WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FROM STATE AND NATIONAL HEALTH EXPERTS TO HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS.

Contra dance with music by Riptide and caller Ezra Smith at the State Street Church near Longfellow Square.

Riptide is Owen Marshall (guitar), Alden Robinson (fiddle), and Glen Loper (mandolin, banjo, percussion).

Dance roles are gender-free. New and experienced dancers of all ages are invited.

$10 at the door.  Enter through the courtyard.
